theta mom thursday

ok, so i have to catch up from last week! i had emily's field trip and wasn't able to post. so...

i went out...again! what? two weeks in a row...its true :o) my sissy, our mutual girlfriend and i went to the craft store...aah, the perfect night out!! tee hee. i spent too much, as usual...but loved seeing my girlies! we hopped from ac moore over to michaels...looove that they're so close together :oD then we just BSd in the parking lot for about 30 minutes catching up on all of the gossip. we went to high school together, so every time we get together one of us has dirt on somebody! lol it was awesome. we definitely don't do it enough, but sometimes things get in the way. i'm sure you've all been there.

this weeks time out was not as long or as fun...but it was long enough for me to paint my nails and shave my legs ;o) i caught up on a little tv after the kids were in bed, and the hubby was at the firehouse. i started crocheting a blanket for david(xmas gift)...but that seemed like work to me...so it doesn't count for my timeout!

nice and quiet, just how i like it!

so far its been a boring week...don't want to jinx myself though, so i'll stop right there! my only issue thus far are the impatient a-holes that have been blowing their horns at emily's bus while she's been seat belted in...i'd like to set.them.on.fire. who does that? i try to remain calm, because i can't exactly tell which car its coming from, and it sounds like a different horn everyday. there is no law against blowing your horn...if i find out who it is though, i plan on making an example out of them...f*ckers! ok, i'm done.

david and emily have had runny noses all week. well, i shouldn't just say "runny"...david is like a walking faucet! its gross, but he does make the cutest growling noses when he tries to snuff it back up! this is what his face looks like while making said growling noises...

emily has been doing terrific at school. we have been circulating her first fundraiser to help the school go swimming at the YMCA once a month! the first group of kids will be going this friday, i'll find out today or tomorrow if emily will be one of the first to try it out! she's never been in a big pool before, i hope she doesn't freak! they are well equipped to deal with her if she does...heh, i'd love to be a fly on the wall though! i got this little piece of heaven sent home yesterday...


finally, i will be attempting to make and can some apple butter today...or tomorrow(haven't decided how ambitious i feel today!) i made an apple crumb pie on sunday, but wasn't really thrilled with the results. hopefully the apple butter turns out better...with those damn $25 apples!! we have back to school night at emily's school tonight, so i may wait until tomorrow to give it a go.

apple picking disaster

it was one of those things that i knew would probably not end up as i pictured it in my head! but i held that little piece of hope...so we went! ugh. there were many tears shed yesterday...surprisingly, none by me! they were mostly emily's. she was mad because she had to share the car with david. she was mad because we had to stop at red lights. she was pissed while waiting in the huge line of traffic that led up to the orchard. finally, we made it to the driveway, it looked like we were the only car that pulled in...i think the huge line was for the country store with the over priced baked goods and cider. well, then i saw the sign that read $25 for a bag! crap, i had only grabbed a 20 as we were running out the door. we pulled off to the side and luckily, hubby to the rescue, had 5 singles crammed into his pocket! while we were figuring out the money situation, and kicking ourselves for attempting this idiotic outing...about 32 cars pulled ahead of us :o/

ok, we got back on line...it would be fun right? we paid the stupid $25 and parked. ok, first...any tree that you could see from the parking lot had already been picked bare, or had a pile of apples under it rotting away! second...since there were no apples that were easily accessible, here we were pushing two strollers(one with a screamer in it-i'm sure you can guess who was screaming by now! lol) up and down these hills...getting apples stuck in the tires, slipping in applesauce. only to get to the other side, and realize that none of the trees were labeled!! we didn't know what the hell we were picking!! we tripped our way back to the other side, and finally found some apples on some flat land that i could use for pies! all the while listening to emily cry...wiping tremendous amounts of snot from her nose...and david trying to get out of his stroller. i picked just enough to fill the $25 bag...and we got the hell out of there.

the best part of the whole day was the two kids sleeping in the car on the ride home! aaahh!

come to find out, emily's cold is back, so she probably wasn't feeling all that hot to begin with. then i forced her to have some "family fun"! i think i'll stick to vicki's crafts and stay home from now on!!

last week, i technically only worked out once. but there was emily's field trip--i was running around with david for four hours. then there was the apple picking "workout" from yesterday! i stopped being careful with my food towards the end of the week, so i'm surprised that i didn't gain any. not surprised that i didn't lose any though! back on track today!!

such a busy week!

i'm so glad that its friday! i'm not usually into the tgif thing, because for us, its emily's crankiest day--so i dread it! but after this week, i welcome friday with open arms!!

blood work, crafting, laundry, field trip, appointment with a lawyer(long story, maybe some day i'll get to tell it! lol) it just seems like every day has had something going on. every day, except today, that is! tonight, after the kids go to bed, i'll be curling up on the couch, and watching ghost whisperer--love that show! ok, so maybe i'll have some crocheting in my hands too, but christmas is fast approaching, and i have stuff to get done!! did NOT feel like working out today. after all the walking/chasing i did yesterday, i think i'm good till monday! lol so my numbers may not be that good one the scale, but i'm not going to feel guilty over it. its just been a non stop week of go go go, so i refuse to cry over a few lost workouts! i have been eating well, so there!

yesterday we went to camp winnebago with emily's school. emily's bus couldn't do the run, so david and i got to go and par take in "nature day". the only suck-y part, aside from being exhausted, whas that it was pretty chilly all day. we had fun anyway! emily did tons of walking, david was playing in dirt, and rocks, oh, and there was that unfortunate incident with the worm(R.I.P. little worm)

toffee candy a.k.a. "crack"

loove this recipe! its great for anytime, or for gift giving!

Toffee Candy
1 sleeve unsalted saltine crackers
2 sticks butter
1 cup sugar
1 package chocolate chips

cover a baking sheet with tin foil and line with crackers.


in a sauce pan melt butter and sugar over medium heat until bubbly/frothy, but not brown.

pour over crackers and spread over the crackers. bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

remove and turn off oven.


sprinkle chocolate chips over crackers, and place back in oven(yes, while its off) for one minute.


take out and spread chocolate chips. add sprinkles, nuts, or any topping that you like! refrigerate for up to 30 minutes, then break apart and enjoy!






you will not be able to just have one piece!! have fun experimenting with toppings!!
